Equipment, ductwork and insulation are usually bought from three different companies, on three different days, each optimising its own half of the problem. We survey all three together and quote them as one package — which is how you end up with a smaller system rather than a bigger one.

Seal, then insulate, then size
In that order. Doing it the other way round buries the problem under fresh insulation and then buys a machine large enough to fight it for twenty years.
The thing nobody tells you about sizing
Cooling equipment is chosen against a calculated load, and the load is a property of the house — its insulation, its air leakage, its ductwork. Fix those first and the number goes down.
Which means the sequence decides the size, and the size decides the price. Buy the machine first and you have locked in the worst version of your own house for the life of the equipment.
What we will not tell you
No savings percentages. No payback periods. No "cut your bill in half". Those numbers depend on your house, your rate plan and how you live in it, and anybody quoting one from your driveway is quoting a brochure.
What we will do is tell you what the load calculation says before and after, and let you decide what that is worth.

Air conditioning
Repair and replacement. Diagnostic first, quote second, and sized against the house you will have after the attic work rather than the one you have now.
Ductwork
Sealing, insulating, supporting, rebuilding, and adding returns where one hallway grille is doing all the work for four bedrooms.
Attic insulation & air sealing
The part that makes the rest work. Sealing the ceiling plane first, then insulating to a specified depth, with the attic hatch and the duct boots done properly.
Heat pumps
A mild winter is the condition heat pumps handle best, which makes this a good place for them. We will still say when keeping your furnace is the better buy.
Maintenance
Once a year before the season: coil, drain, charge, electricals and filter, plus a look at the duct and the insulation depth while we are up there.
What we don't do
No roofing, no solar, no windows, no electrical panel upgrades, no duct cleaning sold as a product. We flag what a job needs and name the trade that holds the licence.

We do not advertise 24-hour service. A small shop cannot staff it honestly, and a promise that fails at two in the morning is worse than no promise. The phone is answered from half past seven, overnight messages are returned first thing, and during a heat run we sort the day by who has no cooling at all in an occupied house.

Why would an HVAC contractor quote me for insulation?
Because in a tract house the equipment, the ductwork and the attic are one system, and quoting them separately is what produces oversized machines. If we insulate and air-seal first, the house needs less cooling, which means a smaller system, which costs less to buy and less to run. Three separate contractors each optimise their own scope; nobody optimises the house.
Is a bigger air conditioner the answer to a hot back bedroom?
Almost never. A room that does not keep up is usually a duct problem, a return-air problem, or a ceiling with thin insulation over it and a hot attic above that. A larger machine reaches the thermostat faster and shuts off sooner, which gives the far end of the duct run less time to receive anything. We look at the run to that room before we look at the equipment.

We do it ourselves, which is the whole point. One crew, one schedule, one quote and one number to call if something is wrong. It also means the person sealing the ceiling plane is the same person who knows where every duct boot passes through it.
What is air sealing and why does it come before insulation?
Air sealing is closing the gaps where the house connects to the attic — around duct boots, recessed lights, wiring penetrations, the attic hatch and the top plates of interior walls. Insulation slows heat moving through a surface; it does very little about air moving through a hole. Blowing insulation over unsealed penetrations buries the problem instead of fixing it, so sealing comes first.
